Dr. Richard Dixon Moore, director emeritus of the radiology department at St. Francis Medical Center and founder of the first school for X-ray technologists in Hawai'i, died Tuesday. He was 84.

Moore was born in West Chester, Pa., and came to Honolulu in 1952 to become director of radiology at St. Francis. He introduced the first whole-body CAT scan in Hawai'i.

He served on the active radiological staff of Castle Medical Center and the consulting radiological staff at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children.

He also served many years as assistant professor and chairman of the radiology department at the University of Hawai'i's medical school and spent two years in the Army as a captain in the medical corps.

Moore is survived by his wife, Catherine; sons Richard, Michael and David; daughters Susanna, Tina, Anne and Trish; and eight grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow at St. Patrick's Church. Aloha attire requested. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a favorite charity.
