A field of 173 juniors will play in the fifth annual Callaway Hawai'i State Junior Golf Championship, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hawai'i Prince Golf Course.

Boys and girls compete in four age divisions (15-18, 13-14, 11-12, 10-under). Play begins at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Travis Toyama, the 2002 Manoa Cup champion, will defend his overall title in the boys division. Chase Chulakote, the 2003 State Amateur Stroke Play Champion, and Kurt Nino, the 2003 Manoa Cup runner-up, are also playing.

The girls' field includes 2003 Jennie K. Wilson champion Stephanie Kono, Kira-Ann Murashige, who won this year's state high school championship and last year's Jennie K., 2003 Westfield PGA Champion Lindsay Hong, and Ayumi Hori, the 2001 Callaway champion.

Past winners include collegiate golfers Kellan-Floyd Asao (2003 Manoa Cup champion), Casey Watabu, Rachel Kyono and Joan Shimozaki.

The top five boys from the 15-18 division and the female champion from the oldest age division earn exemptions into any American Junior Golf Association open tournaments.

Waikoloa sequel: LPGA pro Cindy Rarick will again participate in the Waikoloa Women's Golf Challenge, Oct. 17-19 at the Kings' and Beach courses. Tournament proceeds benefit the Hawai'i State Women's Golf Foundation.

The format is two-woman, best-ball net. Registration packets can be obtained by calling 886-7888 on the Big Island. Entry deadline is Sept. 24.

More equity: "Women Drivers," an all-women tournament to benefit Healthy Start programs, will be Aug. 18 at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

Former LPGA pro and University of Hawai'i coach Marga Stubblefield will offer a clinic. Each player will receive goodie bags provided by Dior and other designer shops along with lunch from Morton's. Door prizes will be geared to women.

Registration begins at 11 a.m., followed by a putting contest and the clinic. The tournament has a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Cost is $100.
