Man charged in attack with bat

Advertiser Staff

Kaleokalani Yamada, 20, of Halawa, has been charged in connection with a Valentine's Day robbery at the Diamond Head Lookout in which two 22-year-old men were attacked with a baseball bat.

He was released after posting $100,000 bail.

Yamada also is charged with the March 21 armed robbery of two tourists from Japan at the Honolulu Zoo. An aluminum bat was used in that robbery. He posted $50,000 bail in that case.

A police affidavit on the Diamond Head case, filed in District Court, said Yamada struck both men on the head with the bat, knocking one of them unconscious. He struck one of the victims after the man met his demand for money by giving Yamada $7, police said.
