ANIMAL COMPANIONS
Love-a-Cat month winding down at humane society
Hawaiian Humane Society
Love-a-Cat month continues for another couple of days, so if you've been thinking about adding a furry friend to your household, now is the time to visit the Hawaiian Humane Society.
"If you've been considering adopting a feline friend, we have many adorable kittens and beautiful adult cats just waiting to bring love into someone's home," said Pamela Burns, society president.
Cats can live for 20 or more years, so choosing your companion should be a thoughtful decision. You can check out cats available on O'ahu in the adoptions section of the humane society Web site, www.hawaiianhumane.org, or call the Pet Hotline for the most up-to-date information: 946-2187, ext. 782.
But the real decision will be made in person as you meet the kittens and cats available for adoption, and find the one or two that are perfect for you, said Burns. "During June we see lots of cats looking for and finding homes."
The Cat House at the humane society facilitates these meetings by placing cats and kittens in four separate rooms. Room 4, for example, is where the kittens cavort you are invited to come in, sit down on a bench, and see which felines warm up to you. Since you can adopt two kittens or cats for a single adoption fee during June, you can also see which felines enjoy each other's company.
If you are 60 or older, the Seniors for Seniors program might be of interest to you. The program pairs mature cats (and dogs) age 6 or older with seniors. The adoption fee is waived. Simply identify yourself as a senior seeking a senior pet and the adoptions counselor will introduce you to the eligible animals.
Come and meet the cats and kittens that are looking for homes. The Cat House is open weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays from noon to 8 p.m.
