Campaign bank records requested

Advertiser Staff

State Campaign Spending Commission director Robert Watada has called on Mayor Jeremy Harris' campaign committee to turn over all its bank statements for the past 18 months.

The committee said on Monday that it could not pay $59,000 from improper campaign contributions that must be forwarded to the commission.

Watada said he wants to verify how the committee had spent its money to ensure that none had been drained out of the accounts to avoid the forfeiture. The committee's attorney said that all money has been accounted for and that the bank statements would be provided by late March.

The committee remains a subject of a lengthy criminal investigation into illegal campaign donations and the awarding of city contracts. Campaign officials have denied any wrongdoing.
