Robbers attempt to abduct woman

An 18-year-old woman was robbed of her purse early yesterday in the parking lot of LikeLike Drive Inn on Ke'eaumoku Street, but her screams scared off two men, one of whom had tried to drag her into his car.

The woman and a male companion, 26, were confronted by two men who drove up beside them in a gray Acura at 4:59 a.m. One of the men, who had a handgun, demanded money while the second suspect grabbed the woman.

Police are searching for the two robbers.

Police said the man who had the gun is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a bandanna mask. The second suspect is a husky man in his 20s, police said.

One juvenile escapee caught

Police have captured one of two boys who escaped Friday from the Alder Street juvenile detention facility through an unlocked door.

A 14-year-old remained at-large today, but police arrested the other escapee, 15, Saturday at the Windward Mall at 8:30 p.m.

Water main breaks in Kalihi

A broken water main disrupted service to 50 residences until mid-morning today, and Rose Street in Kalihi was closed to traffic for most of the day because of another break on the same line.

The first break was reported yesterday shortly before midnight. Repair work was completed before a second break on the same main occurred. The second break, however, was not expected to disrupt service which reportedly was restored by mid-morning, Board of Water Supply officials said.

Motorcyclist hurt in crash

A 37-year-old man suffered multiple injuries to his body and head last night when he crashed his motorcycle on Kaukonahua Road, 12 feet northwest of Wilikina Drive in Wahiawa.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was listed today in critical condition.

The crash was reported to police at 11 p.m. last night.

Investigators said the man was speeding when he lost control of his 2001 Harley-Davidson and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet, police said.
