BUSINESS BRIEFS
AOL chief to address grads

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Richard Parsons, CEO of AOL Time Warner Inc. and a former University of Hawai'i student, will give the commencement address at UH on May 18, two days after he is scheduled to add the title of chairman to his duties at AOL Time Warner.

Parsons attended UH from 1964 to 1968 but did not graduate. He was unable to speak at last year's graduation but made a commitment to UH president Evan Dobelle to appear this year, according to Paul Costello, UH vice president for external affairs.

In January, AOL Time Warner's board elected Parsons to succeed Steve Case, a Punahou graduate, as chairman of the world's largest media company.

Hawaiian unions vote on deals

Flight attendants at Hawaiian Airlines are voting on a tentative agreement as part of the carrier's efforts to cut $15 million in labor costs.

The Association of Flight Attendants will complete the process by March 10. The union did not disclose terms of the agreement.

Hawaiian Airlines pilots are voting until Thursday on a tentative agreement calling for $8 million in concessions. Hawaiian's machinists, represented by the International Association of Machinists, have approved $3.8 million in concessions. The labor give-backs are intended to avoid major job cuts or bankruptcy.
