TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Salem Witch Trials" conclusion, 8 p.m., CBS. Tonight's finale closes powerfully. Massachusetts now has a charter and a governor, Sir William Phips (Alan Bates). He puts his assistant (Peter Ustinov) in charge of the witch trials. By now, the Salem jails are stuffed with accused witches. The Rev. Samuel Parris (Henry Czerny) continues his attacks, with many accusations coming from the household of Thomas and Ann Putnam (Jay O. Sanders and Kirstie Alley). Some 311 years after the events, "Salem Witch Trials" seems fresh and important.
