Motorcyclist in critical condition

A 37-year-old man suffered multiple injuries Sunday night when he crashed his motorcycle on Kaukonahua Road, northwest of Wilikina Drive in Wahiawa.

He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was in critical condition last night.

The crash was reported to police at 11 p.m. Sunday. Investigators said the man was speeding when he lost control of his 2001 Harley-Davidson and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet.

Traveler arrested; drugs confiscated

Airport officials arrested a 24-year-old man Sunday who was suspected of trying to smuggle an ounce of crystal methamphetamine through Honolulu International Airport.

The suspect, a Los Angeles resident scheduled to board a flight back home, was stopped by a Transportation Security Administration employee at an airport security checkpoint. The security official found 27 grams of crystal meth or "ice" stored in a film container in the man's pants pocket, according to Keith Kamita of the state Narcotics Enforcement Division.

Woman escapes from gunman

An 18-year-old woman was robbed of her purse early Sunday in the parking lot of Like Like Drive Inn on Ke'eaumoku Street, but her screams scared off two men, one of whom had tried to drag her into his car.

The woman and a male companion, 26, were confronted by two men who drove up beside them in a gray Acura at 4:59 a.m. One of the men, who had a handgun, demanded money while the second suspect grabbed the woman.

Police are searching for the two robbers.

Police said the man who had the gun is about 5 feet 9 and 150 pounds. He was wearing a bandanna mask. The second suspect is a husky man in his 20s, police said.

Police have captured one of two boys who escaped Friday from the Alder Street juvenile detention facility through an unlocked door.

A 14-year-old remained at-large, but police arrested the other escapee, a 15-year-old youth, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Windward Mall.
