Kamehameha Schools junior Brandi Peiler is no stranger to all-star softball teams, having been named an Advertiser All-State outfielder as a freshman and sophomore.

Peiler took her play to a different level this year, however, by joining the Warriors' rotation as a starting pitcher and coming away with Interscholastic League of Honolulu Player of the Year honors.

Peiler, a right-hander, went 3-0 with a 0.00 earned run average, including a perfect game and a no-hitter. She also batted .462 while anchoring the middle of Kamehameha's order and playing left field when not pitching.

She pitched a four-hit shutout against Punahou to lead the Warriors to a 1-0 victory in the ILH championship game.

"In crunch time, she pitched in big games in the second round and won them all," said University High coach Larry Sakamoto. "And batting, she was a terror the whole season."

Peiler is joined on the ILH all-star first team by seven teammates: first baseman Nicole Kalakau, third baseman Laua'e Emmsley-Chang, shortstop Sharee Fonoti, center fielder Napua Naumu, catcher Kaulana Gould, pitcher Kate Robinson and designated hitter Lena Nahale.

Kalakau batted .410, Emmsley-Chang hit .353, Fonoti was at .487, Naumu batted .382, Gould hit .361 and Nahale was at .375.

Robinson went 10-2 and struck out 86 in 66 innings.

Punahou had two players on the first team, second baseman Lindsay Fujita and pitcher Sarah Weisskopf. Fujita batted .418 and Weisskopf went 11-2 with 80 strikeouts.

Outfielders Kimi Daniel (.442) of Sacred Hearts and Amy Fujimoto (.384) of Iolani and utility player Mandy Yoshizu of University round out the first team. Yoshizu went 7-1 with a 1.14 ERA and batted .468.

Sakamoto, who guided the Junior 'Bows to a 10-6 record, was named Coach of the Year.
