Advertiser Staff

Dick Tomey, a former University of Hawai'i head football coach, has been named as an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers, the team announced on its Web site today.

Tomey will be responsible for the nickelbacks.

Tomey coached for 10 years at UH before resigning to become Arizona's head coach in 1987. After resigning at Arizona at the end of the 2000 season, he worked as a color analyst on K5's telecasts of UH football games the last two years.
