Waipahu shooting suspect arrested

A 25-year-old 'Ewa Beach man was arrested outside of Circuit Court yesterday as a suspect in a Nov. 14, 2001, shooting in Waipahu.

Police said two witnesses recently identified the man as a suspect. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and firearm violations.


Boy allegedly set 3 fires at school

Police yesterday arrested a 13-year-old boy who is suspected of setting three fires at Aliamanu Elementary School last Nov. 23, one of which damaged a portable classroom.

Police arson investigators and school administrators recently identified two suspects. Police are making arrangements to question the second suspect.

The 13-year-old was arrested at 4 p.m. on suspicion of first- and third-degree criminal property damage and was released pending further investigation.

Two other school structures were set on fire but the flames were extinguished, police said. Graffiti was also painted on walls throughout the school.


Teen who escaped from facility caught

A 14-year-old boy, who escaped Friday from the Alder Street detention facility through an unsecured door, was captured yesterday in 'Aiea at 2:20 p.m. A second boy, 15, who escaped Friday was apprehended Saturday at the Windward Mall.
