UH football to open against Appalachian State

The University of Hawai'i football team will open its upcoming season with Appalachian State, the school announced today.

The game is Aug. 30 at Aloha Stadium.

Athletic director Herman Frazier also announced the football team will play Purdue on Nov. 23, 2006.

The Mountaineers, a Division I-AA football school, will fill a vacancy left when Akron pulled out of its commitment last week.

Appalachian State, located in Boone, N.C., was 8-4 last season and finished second in the Southern Conference with at 6-2.

Hawai'i was 10-4 overall and 7-1 in the Western Athletic Conference last season.
