Firm to use UH technology

A Hong Kong company plans to use technology developed at the University of Hawai'i to help clean up organic waste in China.
IPHA BioPolymers of Hong Kong signed a deal with the UH office of technology transfer to use the technology developed by professor Jian Yu. Yu discovered a way to ferment organic waste into environmentally friendly plastics and organic fertilizers. It is now patented by UH.
The Hong Kong company will pay both an up-front fee and continuing royalties to use Yu's technology. Yu is a professor in the UH department of ocean and resources engineering.
