THE LEFT LANE
Need a date? We'll find the man for you

Advertiser Staff and News Services

You saw the lovelorn high-school alums romp around a Maui mansion on "High School Reunion." You listened to Ryan's sometimes painful poetry as he pledged his love to Trista on "The Bachelorette." You were sucked in by the drama on "Temptation Island." Admit it. This reality-TV thing has put you on a binge of bad television watching.

Singles, we have just the thing to get you out of the house. The Advertiser is launching a real-life dating game of its own. We're looking for Hawai'i's Bachelor, and women to be his dates.

The Advertiser's online readers will vote for their favorite bachelor from applications you fill out. Next, we'll pick 10 women for the dating pool and follow your stories of matches or mistakes. Sign up and get updates at www.honoluluadvertiser.com.

'Break' a leg: Camera already is rolling

JOHN STOCKWELL KRIS KRISTOFFERSON
"Blue Crush" writer-director John Stockwell, in town to ready the launch next Monday of his Fox pilot "The Break," already is doing pre-production work. Stockwell, who filmed Universal's "Blue Crush" largely on the North Shore, has been in Makaha with cameraman Don King doing preliminary shooting for the pilot.

Contestants in the surf for the first weekend of the Buffalo Big Board classic, which continues this weekend with tandem surfing and canoe surfing, wound up in footage for possible use down the line. "The Break" has signed part-time Hana resident Kris Kristofferson to join Dylan Bruno as the father-son principals in the story line.

Ferragamo goes sporty, toe-to-toe with Nike

Add to the list of couture companies and high-end retailers jumping into the athletic shoe business: Ferragamo.

The renowned Italian shoemaker, still a family-owned and operated company, just added the Freedom Shoe to its collection. It's a blend of Euro comfort and street chic. Padding quilting and cushioned insoles hidden inside offer softness in a sleek design. Rubber outer soles provide both grip and shock-absorbing benefits.

The Freedom Shoe comes in four styles: the Tenni, a retro '70s tennis upper; the Star, interpreting a running shoe; the martial arts-inspired Kika; and City, all about urban edge.

They come in white, black, blue and tan and retail for $210 to $255 at Ferragamo stores on O'ahu and Maui.
