Drug seller gets 17-year term

A man who sold approximately six rice grain-sized pieces of methamphetamine to a police informant has been sentenced to 17 years and one month, without parole, in federal prison.

Ed Kubo, U.S. attorney for Hawai'i, said U.S. District Judge David Ezra imposed the relatively harsh sentence Tuesday on Mark E. Kinjo because of Kinjo's criminal record, which categorized him as a career offender under federal sentencing guidelines.

Kinjo, 32, was convicted of selling the illegal drug on Feb. 13 and 19 last year.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Constance Hassell prosecuted the case.
