H-3 Freeway tunnels renamed again

Former state highways chief Tetsuo Harano, left, admires a plaque that officially renames the H-3 Freeway tunnels in his honor. Harano's name was put back on the tunnels after a statewide petition campaign gathered thousands of signatures.

Former Gov. Ben Cayetano had renamed the tunnels for the late Gov. John Burns last year for his role in helping get H-3 built. Burns' daughter Sheenagh Burns said her family felt that restoring Harano's name to the tunnels was the right thing to do.

With Harano are Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona.
