By Ann Miller
Advertiser Staff Writer

Pearl Country Club head pro Kevin Hayashi and Hilo Muni assistant pro Lance Taketa will defend their championship Sunday and Monday at the Big Island Candies Aloha Section PGA Scotch 4-Ball Championship.

Sunday's best-ball format starts at 11:30 a.m. at Hapuna Golf Course. Monday's format is alternate ball beginning at 7 a.m.

The purse is $8,000.

Hayashi and Taketa defeated Makena's Brian Sasada and Kirk Nelson by one shot last year in winds as high as 40 mph. Their winning total was 6-under-par 138.

Sasada and Nelson are playing again, as are 2001 champions Andrew Feldmann and Larry Stubblefield, and Brad Bowen and Eddie Lee, who have finished third the last two years. New teams include Pearl's David Ishii and Greg Meyer and the father-son duo of Ron Castillo and Ron Castillo Jr.
