Two Maui Land leaders resign
Maui Land & Pineapple Co.'s top two executives are stepping down, the company announced yesterday.
Richard Cameron will resign as chairman but remain as a director and Gary Gifford, president and chief executive, will retire to pursue "personal interests and opportunities." The move will take place at the company's May 27 annual shareholders meeting.
David Heenan, a Campbell Estate trustee, will replace Cameron as non-executive board chairman and has begun a search for a new chief executive.
Last month, the company announced a net loss of $5.7 million for 2002 compared to $7.6 million for the previous year. Outgoing AOL Time Warner Inc. Chairman Steve Case is majority shareholder of Maui Land & Pineapple.
Pollution report investigated
The Coast Guard marine safety office in Honolulu is investigating a possible pollution violation involving plastics from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship traveling to Hawai'i from Fanning Island in early February.
The investigation is based on a statement from a passenger. Environmental Protection Agency officials in Hawai'i and Miami were notified of the report.
