Music career guidance for youngsters

A free half-day workshop for students and their parents, Professionalism for Musicians, takes place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow in Studio 1 of the Musicians' Association of Hawaii building at 949 Kapi'olani Blvd.

The workshop is for those thinking about becoming professional musicians or searching for musical work. Light refreshment will be provided.

Topics include negotiating an engagement, guidelines for youth employment and self-promotions.

Presentations will be given by Laurilyn Butin, violinist with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and Manoa Strings; Jim Decker, trombonist with the orchestra and Honolulu Brass; Bruce Hamada, bassist with the Bruce Hamada Trio and Bruce Hamada/Jim Howard Duo; John Kolivas, bassist with the orchestra and Honolulu Jazz Quartet; Jim Moffitt, clarinetist for the orchestra and Spring Wind Quintet; Mark Schubert, trumpeter with the orchestra and the Honolulu Brass; and Marsha Schweitzer, bassoonist for the orchestra and Spring Wind Quintet.
