Tonight's Must-See

"While You Were Out," 9 p.m., and "Faking It" premiere, 10 p.m., both TLC. Two good-natured shows provide a little reality block. That starts with "While," which each week has someone prepare a surprise for a loved one. A design team helps create the renovation. Tonight's target is a genetic technologist in Florida, who has a baby daughter named Darwin (really) and had been ignoring his passion for music. Now his wife wants to create a music room. It comes complete with sound lab and lighted guitar rack. Then there is "Faking It," which takes people from one world and teaches them to pass themselves off in another. Think of it as a less-stressful "Joe Millionaire." We meet a Boston carpenter whose favorite things include the two bars he visits and the six TV sets in his home. He learns to work alongside two high-end Beverly Hills designers, pretending to be part of their world.

Of Note

"Girl, Interrupted" (1999), 6 p.m., TNT. Winona Ryder was fascinated by this true story of a prosperous young woman admitted to a psychiatric hospital. She produced the film and took the lead role. Angelina Jolie, in a flashier part, won an Academy Award for best supporting actress.

"Fastlane," 7 p.m., Fox. The guys have to watch the bothersome daughter of a former arms dealer.

"Hack," 8 p.m., CBS. In a rerun, a passenger convinces Mike to protect her from a stalker.

"Grounded for Life," 9:30 p.m., WB. After a school program, Henry is convinced his dad is on drugs. He plans an intervention.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. Film star Jane Powell, 74, plays a mistreated Alzheimer's sufferer.
