TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"NASHVILLE STAR" premiere, 9 p.m., USA Network. Here's a country-music variation of "American Idol." What might give it some legitimacy, however, is the presence of Clint Black. After the 10 finalists are chosen they'll share one house. Black — a talented singer, songwriter and producer — plans to visit often as a mentor. He'll produce the winner's album.

"WHAT NOT TO WEAR" series premiere, 10 p.m., TLC. On paper this series might seem mean and cruel. Friends secretly nominate someone as a fashion disaster. Then stylists descend on the person and force them to get a makeover. It sounds nasty but a sample episode that aired in January was great fun. The target seemed kind of pleased, especially with her $5,000 clothing budget. Now the show settles into a regular slot preceded by other shows with surprise elements. "While You Were Out" airs at 7 p.m. and "Trading Spaces" airs at 8 and 9.

OF NOTE

"COUNTERSTRIKE," 2 p.m., TBS. Rob Estes and Joe Lando star in this hard-charging action film, which premiered Sunday. The story makes little sense with the leaders of the United States and China being hijacked on a cruise ship. The action, however, is unrelenting.

"TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL," 7 p.m., CBS. Even an angel can have an evil twin. Tonight, Monica's twin tries to break up a marriage.

"THE DISTRICT," 8 p.m., CBS. Sometimes, cops can't get any time off. Trying to buy ice cream, Noland gets caught up in a crime.

"LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT," 8 p.m., NBC. The girlfriend of a prominent judge, who is married to someone else, has been killed.

"SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE," 10:35 p.m., NBC. Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah, who's also starring in a new movie with Steve Martin this weekend, hosts. Musical guest is Ms. Dynamite, who is described as the British Lauryn Hill.
