Tonight's Must-See

"All American Girl" premiere, 8 p.m., ABC. No, ABC hasn't turned its primetime over to reruns of Margaret Cho's failed sitcom of several years back. Instead, the old notion of a Miss America-type pageant gets new touches. In the weeks ahead, viewers will judge the women on mental and physical agility, plus singing, dancing and (of course) looks. The result could be as interesting as "American Idol" or as dreadful as "Are You Hot?"

"TV Land Awards," 7 p.m., both Nickelodeon and TV Land. In December, TV Land asked viewers to vote online for a variety of shows, classic characters and campy categories for its first awards show, which airs tonight. The serious side of this show involves special tribute awards. They go to "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "All in the Family," "Star Trek," "Julia" and "SCTV." The silly side had viewers vote in 28 categories. Most are trivial (nosiest neighbor, funniest food fight, classic TV doctor, etc.) but a few are notable. Nominees for best variety show include "Laugh In," "The Carol Burnett Show," "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Sonny and Cher Show." Nominees for best western include "Gunsmoke," "Bonanza," "Maverick," "The Big Valley" and "The Wild, Wild West."

Of Note

"Waiting to Exhale" (1995), 5:30 & 10 p.m., Bravo. This is a good night to savor the immense talents of Forest Whitaker. He directed this terrific movie, which has Angela Bassett and Whitney Houston prevailing in a world of bad men.

"Ed," 7 p.m., NBC. Mike and Nancy head to a romantic getaway. Back home, Ed flubs his efforts to watch the couple's daughter. He has to call Carol for help.

"My Wife and Kids," 7 p.m., ABC. Michael's daughter has been thinking about sex lately.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. In this rerun, a rich man has been killed. Police first suspect his young wife and her lover.
