Beaver's resignation was accepted by Gov. Linda Lingle, who sought his removal following allegations of misconduct and said he would face hearings on the charges against him if he didn't.
Al Beaver was named chairman of the agency in 1997.
Beaver, 59, developed a reputation of being tough on convicted felons since he was named chairman in 1997. But he was suspended last November when allegations surfaced that he improperly ordered his staff to prepare a commutation request for a prison inmate and he had personal business dealings with another man given an early discharge from parole.
