We won't miss those confusing airport signs

For some baffling reason, the American Association of Airport Executives has decided that airport users are better served by signs that say "Ticketing" instead of "Departures" and "Baggage Claim" instead of "Arrivals."

And the Hawai'i Department of Transportation's Airports Division decided to adopt the association's suggested changes. After all, they didn't want to shun proposed nationwide airport signage standards.

Had they asked the public's opinion on the proposed changes, they'd have probably got the thumbs down.

But they didn't, and suddenly Honolulu International Airport was sporting fluorescent yellow-green signs that confused the heck out of many airport-bound motorists.

Not only were the destinations unclear, but the signs were — and still are — so bright that one had to squint to make out the wording.

Well, the people have spoken. The DOT airports division has received so many complaints that the wording on the signs will be revised to include "Departures" and "Arrivals."

Now if the color of those signs could be toned down ...
