Officials spared UH-West O'ahu, the Aquarium and the Small Business Development Corp. at UH-Hilo from cuts "because of their small size," according to documents prepared by Chief Financial Officer James "Wick" Sloane.

The rest of the cuts affect the Big Island's four-year campus and the two-year community colleges. The University of Hawai'i-Hilo was cut by $228,700; the seven community collegeirelated programs by $825,950; and UH systemwide support programs by $198,900.
At UH-Hilo, cuts will include restricting office supplies, acquisition of new equipment, and repair and maintenance. Travel and other support costs also will be restricted.
At Manoa, cuts will be decided pending input from campus constituencies. Areas that could be affected include implementing new programs; expanding high-demand programs; maintenance for new facilities and matching extramural grants.
Cuts to systemwide support programs include restrictions on revolving funds that support a wide array of administrative functions that promote research and training.
The breakdown of cuts at community college goes as follows:
- Honolulu Community College ($151,200): Repairs and maintenance; marketing expenses for summer school; advertising, printing and promotion costs in the Student Services area restricted.
- Leeward Community College ($125,700): Repair and maintenance, campus improvements and the Motorcycle Training Program.
- Kapi'olani Community College ($105,000): Hiring student assistants for instruction; hiring support staff delayed; printing and marketing costs.
- Windward Community College ($40,000): Employment Training Center operating money; marketing and academic support for Summer Session; research and training revolving funds.
- Hawai'i Community College: No cuts, as any would jeopardize educational and training programs.
- Mau'i Community College ($35,600): Hiring operations and maintenance positions delayed, including general laborer and building maintenance worker; hiring instructional support position and Computing Center position delayed.
- Kaua'i Community College ($20,000): Expansion of the Early Childhood Care program.
- Community college systemwide support ($348,200): Faculty and staff out-of-state travel; special repairs and facilities maintenance; operating expenses including supplies, memberships and dues, in-state travel and printing and promotion.
