Rainbows win baseball exhibition, 4-2

The University of Hawai'i baseball team, preparing for a weekend Western Athletic Conference series with No. 1 ranked Rice, defeated Matsusaka of Japan, 4-2, last night in an exhibition game at Les Murakami Stadium.

Kevin Gilbride hit 2 for 3 with a double for UH.

Reid Horton allowed a run on five hits in four inning for the victory. Bryan Lee struck out the side in the ninth for the save.

Chris George (4-1) is scheduled to pitch for UH against Rice's Jeff Niemann (4-0) in Friday's 6:35 p.m. opener.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

HPU sweeps: Hawai'i Pacific swept Martin Methodist of Tennessee, 8-0 and 12-4, yesterday in a non-conference doubleheader at HPU's Windward field.

Malia Sullivan pitched a five-hitter in the first game. Holly Garcia and Jennifer Baron had three hits apiece for HPU (16-4) in the second game.

Meet Broncos' Lelie: Denver Broncos and former University of Hawai'i wide receiver Ashley Lelie will be at the Ala Moana Sprint Hawaii store to sign autographs and pose for pictures Saturday.

Lelie will appear from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 680 Ala Moana.
