Advertiser Staff

Led by outside hitters Costas Theocharidis and Tony Ching, the second-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team surged to a 22-30, 30-22, 30-24, 30-23 victory over UCLA tonight in Los Angeles.

In winning at Pauley Pavilion for the second time in 20 years, the Warriors improved to 14-5 overall and 8-5 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

UCLA, an 18-time national champion, fell to 12-10 and 8-8. They are in danger of not qualifying for postseason for the first time in more than three decades.

Theocharidis pounded 25 kills, his 13th 20-kill match of the season, and Ching amassed 17 kills in 22 swings for a .682 hitting percentage.

The rematch is tomorrow in Pauley Pavilion.
