Circuit Judge Karen Ahn yesterday ordered an O'ahu man accused of fatally shooting a police officer at Kapolei Shopping Center last week held without bail while awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges.

Shane Mark was arrested in connection with the death of officer Glen Gaspar.

Shane Mark, 28, had been held in lieu of $7 million cash-only bail following his arrest in connection with the death of Glen Gaspar, 40, who was one of a group of police officers who had gone to Kapolei to arrest Mark in connection with an unrelated shooting in 'Aiea on Feb. 1.

City Deputy Prosecutor Christopher Van Marter argued that Mark, who has four prior felony convictions, and who faces life in prison without parole if convicted of murdering Gaspar, should be considered a flight risk and would pose a danger to the community if released on bail.

Ahn agreed and ordered Mark held without bail while awaiting trial which is tentatively set to begin May 12, although that date will likely be pushed back as the case develops.

Clayton Frank, warden of Oahu Community Correctional Center, said Mark is being closely monitored by the staff there because of his arrest in a "high-profile" case and because of allegations that Mark was under the influence of illicit drugs at the time of his arrest.
