Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in rallying from a two-run deficit to upset No. 4 Texas, 5-3, in pool play of the Kia Klassic at Fullerton, Calif., yesterday

Hawai'i scored the four runs on three hits, including a double by Trisha Ramos.

UH's Stacey Porter batted 2-for-2 with a triple and solo home run to left center with two outs in the fourth inning — Hawai'i's first run of the game.

Ramos finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Melissa Coogan pitched a four-hitter, allowing four hits and two earned runs in the first three innings for the Rainbow Wahine, before settling down and retiring the final 13 batters. She had three strikeouts and no walks.

Texas (22-5) was led by Wynter Turner, who batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run.

UH fell to Western Athletic Conference rival Fresno State, 3-1, later in a non-conference match up in the championship bracket of the tournament.

Hawai'i's lone run came in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Kate Judd that scored Porter.

Hawai'i is now 15-10 and will play Louisiana-Lafayette today.
