USA Swimming Spring

National Qualifying

• Sun, Eckert medal: Mark Eckert Jr. qualified for USA Swimming's Spring Nationals in a second event and he and Iolani Swim Club teammate Hongzhe Sun both won medals with personal best times last night in the Western Zone Championships at Federal Way, Wash.

Eckert finished third in the short-course 400-yard individual medley in 3 minutes, 56.24 seconds to qualify for the Spring Nationals in Indianapolis April 1-5. On Thursday he qualified in the 200 backstroke.

Sun took second place in the 200 freestyle in a personal best 1:39.33, but did not qualify for nationals.

Evan Duffin-Barnes of Kamehameha Swim Club was 19th in the same event in 1:42.99.

Kamehameha Swim Club's 400-yard freestyle relay finished 15th.

Swimmers from 10 Western states, except California, are in the meet.
