Ching named national volleyball player of week

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i volleyball player Tony Ching today was named as national player of the week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Imports.

Ching, a 6-foot-2 senior outside hitter from the Kamehameha Schools, led the Warriors to a two-match series sweep of UCLA last week. In the first match, he amassed 17 kills and hit .682. The next night, he had 19 kills and hit .607.

"I expected it," UH coach Mike Wilton said of the Ching's honor. "He deserved it. He hit very smart."
