Hearings set for new quarantine law

The state Department of Agriculture will hold public hearings next week on proposed changes to the animal quarantine law.

The proposed changes would allow dogs and cats arriving in Hawai'i to spend five days or less in quarantine if certain requirements are completed and verified. Here is the schedule of hearings:

  • On Maui, 10 a.m. Monday, at the Department of Agriculture conference room, 635 Mua St.
  • On Kaua'i, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Department of Agriculture conference room, 4398A Pua Loke St.
  • On O'ahu, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Department of Agriculture, Plant Quarantine conference room, 1849 'Auiki St.
  • In Kona, Big Island, 1:30 p.m. March 27, Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawai'i Authority conference room, 73-4460 Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway.
  • In Hilo, Big Island, 1:30 p.m. March 28, State Office Building conference rooms A, B and C, 75 Aupuni St.

Written testimony also will be accepted until April 2 and may be mailed to: Hawai'i Board of Agriculture, 1428 S. King St., Honolulu, HI, 96814. Submissions should be marked "Testimony."
