USC claims golf title; UH women 11th

The University of Hawai'i women's golf team moved up one spot to finish in 11th place yesterday with a three-round total of 987 in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Wahine Golf Invitational at the par-72 Kane'ohe Klipper course.
Southern California won the 17-team tournament with 897, followed by Arizona (911) and Rollins College (922).
Mikaela Parmlid of USC won individual honors with a 218, one stroke better than opening day leader Cassandra Kirkland of Arizona.
Nebraska's Merynn Ito, a 2001 graduate of 'Aiea, finished tied for third at 223.
UH's highest finisher was freshman Tara Chappell, who shot 237, good for a tie for 25th.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
HPU sweeps Concordia: Hawai'i Pacific swept a pair of games from Concordia, 6-4 and 5-4, in a doubleheader Tuesday night at Aloha Stadium.
In the first game, Alika Kuraoka (2-for-3) and Ikaika DuPont (2-for-4) led the Sea Warriors. DuPont also had a double and two RBIs.
Tyler Ward batted 2-for-4 in the second game to lead Hawai'i Pacific, which managed to score five runs on five hits.
HPU improved to 12-10 and Concordia fell to 12-8.
COLLEGE SOCCER
UH signs Baldwin's Takeyama: Baldwin soccer player Koren Takeyama, a three-time Advertiser all-state selection, has signed with the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team.
Takeyama, along with current Rainbow Wahine Tia Medeiros, Kalena Eaton and Mahie Atay, led the Bears to two state soccer titles in 2000 and 2001.
Last year Takeyama placed third in the long jump and fifth in the 100-meter dash at the state track and field championships.
VOLLEYBALL
Berg shares in U.S. wins: Lindsey Berg of Manoa split time with two other setters last weekend for the national training team as the U.S. took third place in a tournament in Mexicali, Mexico.
The U.S. finished with a 4-1 record, including a win over Cuba and a loss to the Dominican Republic.
Berg, a 1998 Punahou graduate and three-time All-Big Ten setter for Minnesota, will remain at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs until at least May.
