Peace awards, celebration set

The Season for Peace is planning its closing celebration and presentation of its Aloha Peacemaker Awards for 7 p.m. April 4 at the National Spiritual Center of the Bah‡'’ of the Hawaiian Islands, 3264 Allen Place.

Activities include a peace jam with various instruments (participants are urged to bring their own), world music by Horizen and Geoff Adair, performances by various youth groups, a labyrinth and prayers of peace.

Buddhist site open for sutras

The Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin will keep the doors to its Buddhist temple doors open from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The ministers will be offering sutras during that time.

"We offer the temple as a place of comfort where individuals may gather for reflection, meditation, and rededication during these troubled times," said the Rev. Jan Youth.

3 Kaua'i Marist priests moving

The Atlanta-based Marist order of the Roman Catholic Church is moving clergy from Kaua'i, which will leave the island with fewer priests, at least in the short run.

Three Marist priests at St. Catherine's Church in Kapa'a will be reassigned — two are expected to go to San Francisco.

No decision has been made to move the two priests and one brother who staff Star of the Sea in Honolulu, said the Rev. John Sullivan.

Peace worship service slated

An interfaith worship service for peace, bringing together representatives from an estimated 20 faith, peace and community organizations, will be Thursday at Harris United Methodist Church, 20 S. Vineyard Blvd.

The service will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a candlelight vigil.

Participants include the Rev. Gary Barbaree, Harris United Methodist; the Rev. Vaughn Beckman, First Christian Church; the Rev. Dr. Tom Fujita, Nu'uanu Congregational Church; Sachi Fujita, Pacific Islander and Asian American Ministry-Hawaii; Ha'aheo Guanson, Pacific Justice and

Reconciliation Center; Steve Ito, Puu Honua Fellowship; the Rev. Grant Lee; the Rev. Dr. Neal MacPherson, Church of the Crossroads; Rabbi Avi Magid, Temple Emanu-El; Hakim Ouansafi, the Muslim Association of Hawaii and a representative from the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin.
