Dance drama will be staged at Hawai'i Theatre

Halau O Kekuhi of Hilo and the Tau Dance Theatre of Honolulu, which have collaborated on a dance drama called "Hanau Ka Moku: An Island Is Born," will stage the blend of Hawaiian hula and modern dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hawai'i Theatre.
The show already has played Maui and the Big Island but makes its Honolulu debut this weekend.
Tickets are $48, $33, $18 and $8, on sale at the box office. Call 528-0506.
As a prelude to the performance, three free mini-concerts and lecture demonstrations, which will include a question-and-answer session, are on tap this week:
- From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at the Center for Hawaiian Studies.
- From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Leeward Community College Theatre.
- From 5:30 t 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hawai'i Theatre.
Kumu hula Pualani Kanahele and Nalani Kanaka'ole of Halau O Kekuhi will be on hand, with Peter Rockford-Espiritu of Tau Dance Theatre. Contributing choreographers Kekuhi Kanahele-Frias, Kaipo Frias, Huihui Kanahele-Mossman and Kamaka'iwa Kanaka'ole will participate, as will dancers from both the Hawaiian group and the modern dance group.f
