BUZZING ABOUT:

Wishful thinking: A local promoter is hoping to lure a Tony Award-winning Broadway singer-actress in "A Night on Broadway"-type special composed of mostly show tunes. She's been here before, loves it here, so stay tuned.

Theater day: "Celebrating Local Theatre," a day-long conference April 26 at Kennedy Theatre presented by Kumu Kahua Theatre and the University of Hawai'i-Manoa Department of Theatre and Dance, will assemble key local stage players such as Keith Kashiwada, Harry Wong III and Victoria Kneubuhl to share their expertise on how to get a play written and performed. A panel on what makes a local play local will be among the day's attractions. Cost: $20. Call 536-4222.

MacArthur's part: James MacArthur, Danno on "Hawai'i Five-0," first read Joe Moore's "Dirty Laundry" script before deciding to fill in as Father Madison, a role originally to be played by Jason Scott Lee (who was forced to bow out because a film, "Prophecy," beckoned earlier than anticipated). Said MacArthur: "I'm doing this play because I really like it. Through his characters, Joe has some interesting things to say about the TV news business." Another cast change: Bill Ogilvie replaces Bob Whiting, who stepped down because of family health issues. "Dirty Laundry" will be produced April 18-20 at the Hawai'i Theatre as a Manoa Valley Theatre fund-raiser.

Hana hou: The tradition continues — in addition to their Lei Day concert May 1 at the Waikiki Shell, The Brothers Cazimero journey to Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theater May 2 to continue the celebration. Call 597-1888 (Mountain Apple Company), 591-2211 (Blaisdell box office), (808) 242-7469 (MACC box office).
