Homicide detectives are asking for the public's assistance in finding Emanuelu Tunoa, a man thought to be armed and dangerous. Police gave little information on the victim yesterday, describing him only as an "unidentified Polynesian man."

The shooting was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m. The victim was shot in the chest and died at a nearby hospital.

Tunoa is Samoan and wears his dark brown, wavy hair pulled back in a bun, police said. He often wears a moustache, goatee, and an earring on his left ear. His tattoos include "Tunoa" across his stomach, "SOS" on his back, a dragon on his left arm and a cat on his right arm. Tunoa is 5 feet 11, 185 pounds and has a muscular build. He may be driving a white 1987 Chevy with license plate FJU050, or a white GMC van with license plate JSD388.

Anyone who recognizes Tunoa should not approach him but should instead call Detective Sheryl Sunia at 529-3166, CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cell phone.
