Boxing

• In a bout that neither David Tua nor Hasim Rahman deserved to win, their 12-round IBF heavyweight title eliminator was scored a draw at the First Union Spectrum in Philadelphia.

Judge Bob Grasso scored the fight 116-112 for Tua (42-3-1, 37 KOs). Judge Billy Clancy scored it 116-112 for Rahman (35-4-1, 29 KOs) and judge George Hill scored it even at 114-114.

The winner was supposed to fight IBF champ Chris Byrd. The IBF will have to determine what it wants to do about its No. 1 ranking in the heavyweight division.

• Philadelphia's Bernard Hopkins (42-2-1, 31 KOs) landed every punch known to man and Morrade Hakkar (29-4) of Besancon, France, spent enough time on the canvas that referee Frank Cappuccino stopped the fight, witnessed by a crowd estimated at 10,000, after eight rounds.

• In earlier bouts, Miguel Callist (18-3-1, 14 KOs) of Colon, Panama, the top World Boxing Association lightweight contender, stopped David Armstrong (19-9-2) of Cape Coral, Fla., at 1:03 of the second round of a scheduled 10-rounder.

In a battle of bantamweights, Olympic bronze medalist Clarence Vinson remained unbeaten in 12 fights with an eight-round unanimous decision over Joey Garcia of Modesto, Calif. Vinson has five knockouts.
