PALAMA LEE, whose 1995 Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program scholarship enabled his master's degree in social work from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, has been named the first director of the federally financed program to have also been a recipient. The program, created by Congress in 1988, began awarding scholarships in 1991. It is financed by the U.S. Public Health Service and administered by Papa Ola LOkahi, the Native Hawaiian Healthcare System, on O'ahu. Lee is a licensed clinical social worker, and president of the local chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

Lee replaces THOMAS J. FOYE, new director of Hawaiian health resource development for administering agency, Papa Ola Lokahi. Foye, as former NHHSP director, managed the program's transition from The Kamehameha Schools to Papa Ola Lokahi. Foye will be responsible for resource development projects, including grant application to federal agencies and private foundations.

JENNIFER CHUN, former senior consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, has been named director of business development for Honolulu-based investment firm, Persis Corp. She will manage client consulting projects, develop business and assist the company's strategic partner, Persis Asset Advisors, with real-estate support. Persis owns and manages more than 2 million square feet of distribution, office and retail facilities nationwide. Chun is also chairwoman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, Hawai'i chapter.

• Two members of the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's School of Travel Industry Management, are among three scholars worldwide selected recently for membership in the International Academy for the Study of Tourism: interim dean PAULINE SHELDON, and professor JUANITA LIU. The academy, which is restricted to 75 members, is an international organization created to enhance theoretical and practical research in the field of tourism. Appointed members are recognized for lifelong, outstanding contributions to the field. Among the notable academy members: Chuck Gee, dean emeritus of the University of Hawai'i, School of Travel Industry Management. Sheldon and Liu will be inducted in ceremonies in Finland in July.

DAVID PREECE, for five years the vice president for North American marketing for the Hawai'i Visitors & Convention Bureau, has been named president and chief executive officer of the Institute of Certified Travel Agents, a travel agent training organization. The nonprofit institute offers educational programs and travel agent certifications worldwide. Preece's selection comes after a two-year search, and an attempt by ICTA to develop new strategies — including providing online access to courses — to address "the dramatically altered landscape of our industry," said Matthew Upchurch, ICTA chairman. Preece begins his new assignment in Wellesley, Mass., May 5.

YVONNE ZIMMERMAN ONO has been named senior vice president of the Retail Sales and Service Division of City Bank, overseeing 21 bank branches, the customer service center and branch operations. The 25-year banking veteran joined City Bank in February 2000, and locally, has worked at Pioneer Federal Savings Bank.

• Three account executives at advertising agency and full-service brand development company, Milici Valenti Ng Pack, have been promoted to senior account executives: ALISON WON, responsible for the McDonald's of Hawai'i account; KIMBERLY TAMASHIRO, working on the Aloha Airlines and Alexander & Baldwin accounts, and JENNIFER TANG, lead client contact for the Hawaii Medical Service Association, Diagnostic Laboratory Services and The Contemporary Museum accounts. Also promoted was FANNIE NIIYAMA, formerly a graphic designer, promoted to senior graphic designer.

CYRUS CHEN has been named real-estate analyst at Avalon Development & Consulting, a company providing real-estate acquisition, feasibility, management and development services. He is a veteran of commercial appraisals, most recently appraiser and real-estate consultant at Lesher, Chee, Stadlbauer Inc., and formerly with Hastings, Conboy, Braig & Associates Ltd. Chen is has experience in public communications — formerly a Cox Broadcasting studio producer of talk shows and University of Hawai'i sporting events for KCCN radio.

• Working out of the Honolulu offices of Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo, CHAO "ROBERT" ZHENG has been promoted to director of business development for Greater China, overseeing the firm's worldwide China marketing strategy. The University of Hawai'i-educated Zheng joined WATG in 1996 as a marketing research analyst, monitoring trends, tracking and analyzing data and assisting the firm's China marketing activities. He was promoted to research coordinator in 2000, and in 2001, promoted to manager of business development, Greater China.
