Host Don Murphy provided the bar and much of the refreshments, said Ray Sweeney, spokesman for the event. Murphy's employees donated their time.

Fellow officers helped with the entertainment, local businesses donated door prizes and the patrons paid $100 per ticket.

Some people and businesses sent large cash donations, Sweeney said.

Sweeney said University of Hawai'i football coach June Jones, Honolulu Police Chief Lee Donohue and Honolulu Prosecutor Peter Carlisle, many of Gaspar's fellow officers, as well as others from the law enforcement community, were among those in attendance.

Gaspar, 40, died in the line of duty March 4 while attempting to subdue a fugitive in Kapolei.

He left behind two daughters, ages 11 and 13.

Shane Mark, 28, is awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges in the case.
