Stanford's Seki finishes tied for second in Pac-10

Stanford senior Jim Seki, a 1999 Punahou School graduate, finished tied for second yesterday in the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Golf Championship at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Calif.

Seki, who shared the third-round lead, shot a final-round 1-over 73 to finish at 2-under 286. He was tied with Arizona State's Brady Stockton (69).

UCLA's John Merrick shot a final-round 9-under 63 to easily win the title with a 12-under 276.

UCLA, with 1439, won the team title by 27 strokes over runner-up Arizona.



• Warriors finish 7th: James Beston tied for fifth individually, but it wasn't enough to pull the University of Hawai'i above seventh in the final round of the Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship yesterday at the Houstonian Golf Club in Texas.

Beston, a junior from Australia, closed with a 1-under-par 71 for a total of 2-under 214. Tulsa's David Inglis successfully defended his WAC individual title by shooting 71-208. Fresno State's Nick Watney (69) also shot 208, but lost on the third playoff hole.

Fresno State won the team title by three shots over defending champion Tulsa with a total of 2-under 862. UTEP (290-868) was third. Hawai'i (300-891) shared seventh with San Jose State.

UH senior Justin Kim, who was in second after the first day, closed with a 73 to tie for 15th at 221. Matt Kodama (80-226) tied for 35th, Jaime Matsumura (76-233) was 42nd and Kellen-Floyd Asao (83-239) tied for 48th.
