Critic's Choice

Mini-reviews of current stage productions by Advertiser theater critic Joseph Rozmiarek

"Hawaii Tales for Young People": The Honolulu Theatre for Youth finds the key to unlocking the imaginations of preschoolers with these stories by local author Kimo Armitage. All it takes is passion and a hand puppet. At 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and May 10, with a sign-interpreted performance at 1:30 p.m. May 10. Tickets: $12 general, $6 for ages 18 and younger and over 60. 839-9885.

"Morning's At Seven": God's in his heaven and all's right with the world, despite 50 years of family intimacy threatening to dissolve overnight. Excellent ensemble acting by a cast of veterans makes this domestic comedy a real treat. At 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, 4 p.m. Sundays (but at 6 p.m. on May 11), through May 11 on Hawai'i Pacific University's Windward campus. Tickets: $14 general, $10 seniors, military, students, HPU faculty/staff, and $5 HPU students. 375-1282.

"The Weir": An evening of ghost stories leads to deeper revelations in this monologue-based blend of blarney and Chekhovian melancholy. Excellent set and performances make us feel like we're sitting in an Irish pub. At 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays through May 11 at the Yellow Brick Studio, 625 Keawe St. Tickets: $10. 722-6941.
