MORIMOTO
The Food Network tomorrow will air a segment shot last fall at the Big Island Festival. It's the Iron Chef Cook-Off at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, with Hawai'i chefs competing against members of Food & Wine's 2002 Best New Chefs list. Host of the event was the Iron Chef himself, Masaharu Morimoto.

Watch chefs DK Kodama, Russell Siu, Willie Pirngruber, Miles Tokigawa and Duccio Orlandini vs. the Mainland pros at 3 p.m. Saturday on the Food Network; repeats at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Daddy calls in pros

FLANAGAN
Nonsinger Jim Lenhart, a Lions Coffee vice president, will be percolating to a new tune today with the new Hapa — Barry Flanagan and Nathan Aweau.

Lenhart will perform "Lei Pikake," while daughter Amanda Lenhart, 12, dances hula as lei queen at Holy Nativity School in 'Aina Haina. It's a school tradition for the dad of the lei queen to sing while the daughter dances. Figuring he needed kokua in a big way, Lenhart called Flanagan and Aweau, who obliged. So for today only, Hapa is a trio.

Nibbling on fashion

It will be an elegant Sunday afternoon when the Hospice of Kona hosts a High Tea for Hospice fund-raiser, 2:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hualalai.

Sandwiches, scones and sweets will be served. A fashion show featuring designs by Joan Blackshear, keiki attire by Hitomi and vintage clothing by Hula Heaven will be accompanied by the slack-key guitar melodies of John Keawe. Also planned: a silent auction and portraiture by photographer Toby Hoogs. Tickets: $40 adult, $20 child in advance. Reservations recommended: Jan, (808) 334-0334. At the door: $50.

'Devil's' advocates

Book-club members, are you making progress on "Carter Beats the Devil"? The reading period for the Advertiser Book Club selection ends a week from today, when it will be time to get your comments in.

Free bookmarks to all who send their address along with their comments (check Sunday's paper or the.honoluluadvertiser.com/current/il/bookclub for specifics).

If you're reading the paperback edition, make note: On the front cover, slide your fingers over the space below author Glen David Gold's name. Feel the bumps? That's braille. Wonder what it says? Look for the answer Sunday in the Island Life section.
