Service set for historian Jim Bartels

A funeral service for Jim Bartels — former Washington Place director and 'Iolani Palace curator and managing director — will be held May 10 at St. Andrew's Cathedral.

Visitation is noon to 1 p.m.; service at 1 p.m. Reception to follow at Washington Place. Donations in his memory may be made to Washington Place or 'Iolani Palace.

Bartels died of complications from cancer April 20 in California. He was 57.

The Friends of 'Iolani Palace will also open its doors in Bartels' memory, 4 to 7 p.m. May 14. Visitors may take free self-guided walks through the rooms restored by Bartels, his co-workers and volunteers.
