JUST MY STYLE
Eclecticism key element in fashion

By Paula Rath
Advertiser Staff Writer

Codi Smith is wearing a T-shirt that once belonged to her mother — she deconstructed it and redesigned it to her liking, plus a yellow polyester skirt she designed and made, shoes from Ann Taylor and a necklace that was handed down by her grandmother.
Unexpected and eclectic are words that describe Codi Smith's style. One day she may wear a sweet, little-girly pastel frock; the next, an androgynous, punk-inspired outfit.

She delights in unexpected juxtapositions and loves to accessorize with a blast of color.

Name: Codi Smith.

Age: 24.

Occupation: UH-Manoa student and nanny.

What I'm dying to buy right now: the whole Marc Jacobs and Marc lines.

The best bargain I ever found was: vintage '70s shirts from Savers for 50 cents.

I'm willing to pay more for top quality when it comes to: A pair of great jeans, because they'll last for years, or a really special one-time event dress.

I can never get enough: retro vintage T-shirts i I collect them.

My favorite designers are: Betsey Johnson and Marc Jacobs.

My must-have staples are: a white or black shirt, a tank top, a beautiful blouse, a great pair of jeans and comfortable walking shoes.

Men/women who inspire my look are: my mother and Madonna.

My biggest fashion faux pas was: Ugh. Making my own outfits in high school. Also, going into my grandparents' closets for fashion ideas, and wearing that polyester pants suit of my grandfather's. What was I thinking?
