Police seek Kapahulu bank robber

Advertiser Staff

Police and the FBI were searching yesterday for a man who robbed the Kapahulu branch of American Savings Bank.

The suspect was described as a man in his 20s, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10, 160 pounds.
The man walked into the bank at about 11:30 a.m. and gave a teller a note demanding money. The note said he was armed, but no weapon was seen. Money was handed over, and the robber fled.

The robber was last seen heading mauka on Kapahulu Avenue. Police believe he may be the same man who robbed the University branch of Bank of Hawai'i on March 26.

The man is described as in his 20s, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10, 160 pounds, with a slim build and dark, curly short hair. He was wearing sunglasses, a black-T-shirt under a dark-colored short-sleeved dress shirt, and a silver lip ring.
