HONOLULU

Airport reopens parking area

Honolulu airport officials last week reopened about 140 parking spaces at the interisland terminal's parking structure that had been closed for more than a year because of security concerns.

Because the stalls were adjacent to airport gates and planes, the fourth-floor parking stalls had been off-limits since Sept. 11, 2001.

That closure often resulted in the parking structure quickly filling up, forcing drivers to use an adjacent open lot or to park in the main parking building further from the interisland terminal.

Airport officials installed new security fencing in the structure to separate the planes and parking spaces, said airports administrator Davis Yogi.
