HOLES IN ONE
Training break produces ace

Darrin sato

  • Bay View Golf Club
  • Hole No. 17, 97 yards, 7-iron

My name is Ron Quong and I'd like to tell you about a hole-in-one by my friend, Darrin Sato.

A group of 32 of us took a break from triathlon training for the Tri-Moving Triathlon Club Divot Makers and Hackers Golf Tournament at Bay View. The majority of us spend our time training for triathlons, ranging from the Tinman to the Ironman.

The fourth group in the tournament (Sato, Harris Habu, John Antonio and Peter Hursty) got to the 17th hole and prepared to tee off. Sato pulled out a 7-iron.

The funny thing about Sato's ace is that he has been on a golf course only a few times, has never taken a lesson and borrowed the clubs from a friend.

Sato hit a nice shot off the tee and the ball hit the green, rolled toward the pin and disappeared.

The foursome went hysterical and the excitement and joy could be heard around the course.

Since our tournament, Sato has been back to training. On April 20, he finished the Strongman Triathlon (a 2.4-mile swim, a 90-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run) in Miyakojima, Japan, in 10 hours, 17 minutes.
