Volleyball tourneys scheduled

Signups are being held for two "Longy Okamoto Volleyball Classics" in August.

The Okamoto family is having its annual tournament Aug. 21-23. The girls will be at 'Aiea and Radford and the boys at Moanalua and possibly Pearl City. For more information, contact tournament director Erin Okamoto Coker (739-2709 or cokere001@hawaii.rr.com).

Teams can request preferred sites and nights. Classic T-shirts, featuring a picture of the late junior coach, will be available.

McKinley High School is also calling its boys invitational the Longy Okamoto Classic. That tournament will by Aug. 14-16 at the high school. McKinley's Lady Tigers Classic tournament will be Aug. 21-23 at the high school.

ALOHA STATE GAMES

• Registration starts May 20: Registration brochures for the 2003 Aloha State Games will be available at all Hawai'i Jamba Juice locations starting May 20.

Information about the events can also be found at www.alohastategames.com or by calling 732-8805.

The first two events of Aloha State Games — action pistol and bulls-eye pistol — is June 14-15 at the Koko Head Range. The final event will be the softball tournament, July 25-27 at the Central O'ahu Regional Park.

The state games track meet is July 26 at Punahou School.

Competition in 35 other sports will take place on O'ahu and the Neighbor Islands, primarily on weekends. Approximately 3,000 Hawai'i residents are expected to participate in the games.
